Grace Lutheran Youth Serve Homeless Population

Grace Lutheran Youth and an alumna worked together on a service project to help Tulsa’s homeless population. Backpacks were sourced and filled with basic products that would support homeless people (socks, gloves, hygiene products). Each backpack also included a hand written Bible verse and message lovingly placed in an interior pocket, meant for the backpack’s future owner.

Over Christmas break 2019, Grace Lutheran Youth partnered with The Merchant to get the backpacks distributed. Grace Lutheran Youth representatives were on hand to help in delivering the backpacks.

The Merchant is a Jesus-centered place of hospitality and healing for the poor and marginalized in Tulsa. The Merchant’s mission is to share the love of Jesus with the poor and marginalized, to mobilize the church towards ministry to the poor, and to pray for our city.

Deuteronomy 15:11 “For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’"
